Treaty of Waitangi - click on image to find out more
The Treaty was signed in Waitangi on the 6th of February,1840. The purpose of the treaty was that the British government wanted to colonise N.Z. It was also because the Maori wanted protection, partnership and participation. There were 9 copies made and taken around New Zealand to get signitures or marks from Maori Chiefs. It was written by James Busby & William Hobson. Then it was translated into Maori overnight by Henry Williams & his son William Williams.
